KCO
What is the KCO?
KCO is a parent volunteer organization that works with school administration and faculty to support the education environment of the children that attend Khalsa. Many of our activities involve fundraising. We also come together as parents and school to share ideas and plan new projects.
What are some of the current KCO committees and projects?
Teacher Training: KCO helps support Montessori teacher training for school employees who wish to become Montessori teachers.
Teacher Conferences: KCO offers grants for teachers to attend Montessori conferences. Teacher/ Assistant Holiday Gift Program: gifts of appreciation for the staff.
Spanish Committee: The Spanish program is funded by parent donations.
Fine Arts Committee: Khalsa has a long history of supporting arts and culture. This committee acts as a liaison between parents and the art and music teachers to coordinate volunteers and provide organizational and monetary support.
Volunteer Coordinator: This committee helps teachers find room parents, finds volunteers for our events and coordinates volunteer activities. These people are invaluable to our community.
Community Building: A community is defined by common goals and beliefs. Ours is the education of our children. It takes time to build a community. The KCO supports this by sponsoring fun family celebrations in the fall and spring.
Science Committee: This committee was formed to promote science at Khalsa. It helps organize the participation of the school in SARSEF (Southern Arizona Science Fair). They connect teachers with science mentors and volunteers.
Directory: The KCO produces the family directory. Advertising space is available in the back of the directory for a fee.
Go Green: The KCO raises money and supports environmentally friendly projects such as water harvesting, outdoor education and recycling.
How does KCO raise money?
Pizza Day: Once a week the KCO sells pizza to the students at lunchtime. This is our largest and most consistent fundraiser of the year.
Arizona Public School Tax Credit: The KCO encourages every family to participate in the Arizona tax credit program for extracurricular activities. This is a way to direct tax dollars to programs at Khalsa Montessori School.
Teacher Enrichment Fund: This is a fundraiser to encourage direct gifts to the KCO to support the teachers and classroom projects. Parents are encouraged to include Khalsa Montessori School and the KCO as part of their charitable giving plan.
Fundraisers: The KCO organizes a few fundraisers every year to support our programs. These include Original Arts (student art on items such as mugs, t-shirts, luggage tags, totes, etc.), escrip ( a program where participating merchants will give a certain percentage of the purchase to Khalsa, www.escrip.com/), and annual silent auction.
